Review: Summerjam Festival Germany

Aktualisiert: 28. Feb. 2021

The Review of the grest German Festival with Ward 21, Patrice, Groundation, Sly Robbie, Samy Deluxe, Nattyflo and more. WATCH OUT!.

The Summerjam took place this year from July 5th to July 7th with 30,000 expected visitors at the Fühlinger See in Cologne. For most of the visitors, Thursday was the main day of arrival at Summerjam, including us. We set out in the afternoon and managed to avoid the traffic jam by taking a little detour. For once, we didn't follow the navigation system and the signs and got our ribbon pretty quickly. From the ribbon issue it went on to the parking lot. Here, too, there were a lot of nice stewards who directed us to the right parking lot, which wasn't that full either.

“Do you have a design in mind for your blog? Whether you prefer a trendy postcard look or you’re going for a more editorial style blog - there’s a stunning layout for everyone.”

When we arrived at the festival site, we unpacked our handcart and brought the things to the campsite. What was the first thing we noticed? The Fühlinger See, which is located around the campsites and on the infield. We were really enthusiastic and cooled down in the lake after pitching our tents. Most of the campsites were already full and well attended by the evening. We have already decided to walk across the site and have already found the first festival visitors who live by the lake. We couldn't miss a round of Flunkyball and you could hear calls to Helga at one or the other corner, and it seems that she has disappeared again. A few food stalls have been rehearsing for the next few days and distributing pizzas to see if they are well received.

Friday

On Friday we could finally take a closer look at the infield and look at the great stands around the lake. Culinary there was a huge selection of many specialties from all countries. From burgers, curry and hand bread to ice bananas, everything was included and therefore there was a large selection. There were also some stands where merch or other items of clothing could be bought. The infield was beautifully decorated with colorful garlands that were attached to the trees and stretched across the infield. There was enough seating and corners where you could just relax. For this purpose, pallets were set up and provided with comfortable cushions that matched the color of the garlands.

On the infield we also have a stand from the HELP Jamaica association! e.V discovered. This is an organization that provides education in the poorest regions of Jamaica and sets up educational institutions there that are independent. They have made it their goal to promote the creativity, talent and development of children. Not far from there we ran up to a Viva con Agua de St.Pauli e.V information booth. An association that works with many volunteer supporters across Germany and beyond for clean drinking water. They collect the returnable cups at the concerts and use the donations for WASH projects. There you could, for example, play Super Flitzer and let yourself be licked. At the concerts we noticed them with the white flags again and again, danced along and one or the other band called for donations of the cup because they support the projects themselves. In the morning they also called for a little yoga session.

Samstag

Saturday morning was perfect for a swim in the temperatures and bright sunshine. So we grabbed our air mattresses and cooled down and then made something for breakfast. After a round of table tennis, it was time for the first great bands on day 2.

Mono and Nikitaman were at the top of my program on Saturday and they were the first band I looked at. With the words “Life is beautiful yeah yeah, oh I can get used to it ”from their song“ Imagine ”they hit the bull's eye and wrote the day. With the right reggae beats they enchanted the Green Stage and at 5:15 p.m. they already attracted many visitors.

After Alias and Motrip, Nura played on the same stage that used to be on the road with SXTN and started the concert with a song by SXTN. With her own songs, however, she is just as sure on stage as she used to be with Juju and won the 1Live Krone as best artist in 2018. The sympathetic singer bears this name in full honor. Because you are my Chaya, it was said at the show and she asked the “guys”, as Nura calls them, to take the girls on their shoulders. Of course, my friends wouldn't let themselves be told twice either and I could already watch the concert from above and cheer on Nura. It was definitely an interesting picture! The stage was adorned with a wheel of fortune, on which the mood of Nura's people was shown again and again when it got quieter. That made for a lot of cheers and it never really got quieter.
